About Brevora

A UK-registered training company publishing structured, self-paced courses in spreadsheet and business intelligence skills for people who use them at work every day.

Why Brevora exists

There is no shortage of Excel content online. There are thousands of hours of it, most of it free, and yet the same problems keep appearing in the same offices: workbooks nobody can audit, a monthly clean-up ritual that eats an afternoon, dashboards that nobody acts on, and a report that only one person in the building can maintain.

The reason is not a lack of information. It is a lack of sequence. Free content is optimised for the search query — "how to use XLOOKUP", "how to make a pivot table" — which means it teaches techniques in the order people happen to look them up, not the order in which they build on one another. You end up with a collection of tricks and no underlying structure, which is exactly why the knowledge does not transfer when the problem is slightly different from the tutorial.

Brevora was created to teach the same material in the order it should be learned, on realistic data, with an explanation of why each layer exists before the next one is added. It is deliberately unglamorous: fewer clever tricks, more habits that hold up under pressure.

What we believe about teaching this subject

Structure beats features

Knowing a hundred functions is worth less than knowing how to lay out a workbook so it can be checked, changed and handed over. Most spreadsheet disasters are not caused by a missing function; they are caused by inputs mixed with calculations, hard-coded numbers buried inside formulas, and no separation between what the model assumes and what it computes. We teach structure first and return to it constantly.

Realistic data, or it does not count

A tutorial dataset with five perfect rows teaches nothing about the file you will actually receive: trailing spaces, dates stored as text, a header block above the real headers, three different spellings of the same customer name, and a total row that quietly breaks your pivot. Every practical module in our courses uses data with realistic imperfections, because handling them is most of the job.

Say when a technique is the wrong one

A course that only ever adds features produces people who over-engineer. We include the opposite: when a macro is the wrong answer and Power Query is right, when a dashboard should have been a one-line email, when an extra helper column is clearer than an ingenious single formula, and when an AI assistant will hand you something plausible and wrong. Judgement is a skill and it can be taught.

Build for the person who inherits it

The real test of a spreadsheet is not whether it works today. It is whether a colleague can open it in eight months, understand it without calling you, and change it without breaking it. That standard runs through every course: documentation tabs, named ranges, consistent conventions, and formulas a human can read.

Our mission

To give working professionals the spreadsheet and business intelligence skills they were never formally taught — in the right order, on realistic data, with honest guidance about what each tool is and is not good for — so that the reporting their organisations depend on is faster to produce, easier to check, and safe to hand to somebody else.

Our approach to how we sell

The online course market has a reputation problem, and it is earned. Countdown timers that reset on refresh. Struck-through prices that were never charged. Invented student counts. Testimonials from people who do not exist. Certificates presented as if they were accredited qualifications. Promises of income that no training can deliver.

We have made a deliberate decision not to use any of it. There are no fake reviews on this website, no fabricated statistics, no artificial scarcity and no strike-through pricing. Where we describe what a course contains, that is what it contains. Where a claim would need evidence we do not have, we do not make the claim.

Concretely, that means we tell you in writing that our certificates are certificates of completion issued by BREVORA LTD and not regulated qualifications; that we are an independent provider with no affiliation to Microsoft; that no training can guarantee a job, a promotion or a business result; and that you need to hold your own Microsoft licence, because we do not supply software. Every one of those statements costs us sales. We prefer it to the alternative.
